Paul Taylor: The Bilingual Comedian

At Alliance Française d'Adélaïde, Paul has already established a strong reputation among students. For many, he has become a point of reference in the world of comedy and a fun way to learn more about French culture.

A Quick Biography

You wonder how British humour can become accessible to the French? Well, when the latter are precisely the target of the jokes.

In the world of French culture, "la bise" is a common greeting that involves kissing each other on the cheeks. However, for British-Irish comedian Paul Taylor, this tradition was a hilarious source of inspiration that led to his rise to fame in France! Taylor's online video, "La Bise," which humorously mocks this French custom, went viral with over three million views, and it propelled him to become a household name in the French comedy scene.

Thanks to the massive success of "La Bise," Canal+ offered Taylor the opportunity to create a short comedy series that would delve deeper into the intricacies of French life as seen through an expat's eyes. Thus, "What the Fuck France?" was born, and it ran for 34 episodes, becoming one of the first shows in English to be broadcasted on a French network. Following this success, Taylor also released two other shows, "What's Up France?" and "Stereotrip," which also humorously analyzed French news and stereotypes associated with other European countries.

However, Taylor defines himself primarily as a stand-up comedian, and he made his debut in Paris in 2013. His first show, #Franglais, was a massive hit, with performances in different Parisian theatres and tours in Europe and Canada. The show was filmed and broadcasted on Canal+, and it showcased Taylor's struggles with the French language, which he still hasn't mastered despite his flawless accent.

In 2018, he won the SACD Award for Humor, an esteemed recognition in the French comedy industry.

Paul's popularity has now extended beyond France, with sold-out shows in countries such as Australia. In 2017, his performance at Tivoli's Theatre in Brisbane sold out all 600 seats, and he also sold over 500 tickets at Meat Market in Melbourne.

He is currently finalizing his tour in Canada and will be performing in Asia in May, and this makes it the perfect time for Australians to take advantage of his proximity and catch one of his shows.

The Aussie Tour

Now, Taylor is gearing up for his third show, "Bisoubye x," which debuted in January 2023 at La Cigale in Paris. The show uncovers the people and things Taylor has had to say goodbye to in order to make way for a new chapter in his life.

As he prepares to embark on a six-date tour of Australia at the end of May 2023, audiences in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, and Brisbane are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to see this popular comedian in person. With his unique brand of humor and sharp wit, Paul Taylor promises to deliver a night of laughter and entertainment that you won't soon forget.

Don't miss the chance to see this rising star in action on his tour of Australia in 2023!
